Phuket is an island located west of Thailand and very famous for its beautiful white beaches mostly found on the Phuket’s west coast. The place has become a tourist destination for many other reasons but primarily, tourist go here to enjoy its white sandy beaches.
There are at least thirty five beaches in Phuket which are all worth visiting. However, it is recommended that you select from ten of these beaches which will no doubt give you the best satisfaction for your holiday in Phuket. Below are the beaches not necessarily in their proper order:
1. Patong Beach
Reputedly the most famous of all beach resorts in Phuket, Patong has a wide variety of entertainment activities and nightlife which makes it an ideal place to play and party. The town itself has a bustling activity at night made alive by hundreds of restaurants, GoGo bars, beer bars, and discos. The key to total enjoyment in this place especially for new arrivals is not to be overwhelmed by the chaotic atmosphere and to take everything in stride. Just “mai pen rai” according to the natives which roughly translates to “it doesn’t matter” or “don’t worry, be happy.”
2. Paradise Beach
Paradise Beach is stunningly beautiful. In fact, it considered one of the most, if not, the most attractive beach in Phuket. Although the location is not easy to find, Paradise beach offers safe swimming even during low season compared to Patong beach. It’s a small beach with large granite rocks found on both ends and a coral reef 100 meters out. The location is generally calm and peaceful.
3. Kata Beach
Ideal for the whole family, Kata bay is an all around favorite because of its white sands and clear blue waters. The beach itself is lined with palm trees, and there are also great restaurants, and nightlife is just as lively but not so raucous as in Patong. One can select varied accommodation options just close to the beach. The place is a favorite for surfers from May to October and is crowded with sun seekers from November to April.
4. Karon Beach
Considered the third longest among the beaches on Phuket island, Karon is second as a favorite holiday destination. The beach offers excellent snorkelling and diving spots and features a small city for shopping, fine dining and nightlife. There is a Buddhist temple, a beach road occupied by restaurants and shops and the famous Luang Poh Chuan Road where the best restaurants and the “hottest” nightlife places are found.
5. Kamala Beach
Just north of Patong beach, Kamala is much quieter and excellent for relaxation. It is actually one of the most enthralling places in Phuket. A well-enclosed bay with a fishing village embraced by forested hills, It is a favorite for retirees and some long-term visitors living in small hotels. Kamala is an ideal place for a quiet hideaway.
6. Surin Beach
Surin beach is known as a millionaire’s resort or a “Millionaire’s Row” due to the presence or luxury resorts that stand alongside million dollar houses dominating the prime spots. Although noted for fine white sand and clear turquoise water, the place is more of a coastal village than a resort town.
7. Laemsingh Beach
Laemsingh has a feeling of a secret beach being located below a steep promontory, and is part of a hidden bay encircled by palm trees and giant boulders. It’s so small that it gets crowded especially during the high season.
8. Bangtao Beach
Bangtao houses luxurious villas and resorts along its four mile stretch of beach but the northern tip is untouched by development and a few minutes away is Cherng Talay, a primitive town where villagers live just like their ancestors did – by farming, fishing, and rubber tapping. But right in the middle of Bangtao beach is Laguna Phuket, one of the largest resort complexes in Asia.
9. Layan Beach
This a small, relatively unknown beach located at the northern part of Bangtao. Just beside a shallow bay with its single and only hotel in the area, Layan Beach Resort has very shallow waters that swimming is not advisable. But the place is beautiful, there’s no question about it.
10. Kalim Beach
Kalim beach, although very near to Patong beach is still free from the influence of its famous neighbor. Kalim still retains most of its Thai touches and is famous for its well-respected restaurants and fine-dining venues. Kalim is not good though for swimming because of the rocky beach but it is one of the best surfing destinations in Phuket.
There are several other wonderful beach resorts aside from the ones previously mentioned. But even then, going to these locations are already enough to give you the best holiday experience of your life. Just imagine if you will have to visit each and every beach resort of the more than thirty found on Phuket island. One whole year may not be enough to complete your holiday tour although it’s not really necessary. Even only one these these beaches is guaranteed to make your holiday complete.
Samsara Estate is also located on the west coast of Phuket on a private peninsula on Nakalay bay. It is situated in Kamala, close to Kalim, and not far from Patong beach.
